The great thing about taking lessons outdoors is that there is so much more space.
I wanted to give the pupils a better sense of scale, using meaningful objects that they could relate to – what better object to use than themselves. I wanted to look at exploring how to double and triple objects and if I was going to use a secondary pupil I would need more space than the classroom so we took the lesson outdoors.
The lesson was called ‘doubling up’ and looked and how to double and treble measurements while keeping the correct shape and proportions. The class were enthusiastic about the lesson and generally amazed at the seemingly huge difference between 1:1 and 2:1 – and even more by 3:1.
