A bespoke built education garden, created specifically for The Kent County Show, was awarded the first prize of Top Gold at the event. The garden was built by Skanska RM in partnership with Learning through Landscapes, who provided consultation for the project alongside landscaping and countryside management company, Twig.
The garden demonstrated the vast learning opportunities that an outdoor space can offer with highlights including:
· Storytelling of the Kentish and Canterbury Tales with log seats and story area
· Sound tunnels travelling under the soil
· A laser level game
· A design table and materials so children can create their own school grounds
· An outdoor microscope for a close up look at nature
· “Big Art” with Kentish artist Andrew Park
· A trained clay maker that will be showing visitors how to traditionally make a clay oven, with their feet!
Steve Cooper, Skanska’s Development Director for Education said, “We are pleased to bring together the nationally recognised education skills of Learning through Landscapes, and the landscaping creativity of local Kent company Twig."
"We hope that our garden will inspire pupils, their parents and teachers to use the outdoors more for learning. This is another example of how Skanska RM can work with the best, locally and nationally, to help transform learning in Kent.”
