From supporting parents through the DEFRA funded Learning Together programme to conducting research on behalf of the Countryside Agency with preschool children, we are committed to supporting the ESD agenda.

Learning Together
was a three year programme, supported by DEFRA, that motivated parents to learn about Education for Sustainable Development issues via the design, use and management of their children’s school grounds. LTL worked in partnership with The National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations (NCPTA) and over 2000 PTAs from schools and settings across England.

In partnership with the Countryside Agency and Kent County Council, Heading Out is a research project which investigates the importance of the outdoors to the development of Foundation Stage children across England. The project gathers together evidence of the potential benefits of access to the outdoors for enjoyment, development and learning.

As part of our ongoing support of schools, we have produced two toolkits designed to help schools engage pupils in the use and development of the diverse environments in their grounds. The primary school version was developed with the support of DEFRA with the DfES supporting the secondary school version.

As a patron of LTL, environmental broadcaster Sir David Attenborough lent his name to the Wildlife Safari fundraising pack. This particular resource helped schools raise funds by surveying the biodiversity of their school grounds.

LTL also supports the work of the Eco-Schools programme and publishes a range of materials on the environmental aspects of school grounds, such as sustainability and growing food.
