Whether complementing the “Healthy Schools” standard or “Every Child Matters” via our national programmes, or helping schools develop Growing Clubs as part of the government’s “Food in Schools” programme, LTL continues to promote the benefits of healthy school grounds.

School grounds offer many opportunities for improving the activity levels, lifestyles and health awareness of our children today. LTL’s work over the years has sought to exploit these diverse opportunities.

Get Moving was a pilot programme which aimed to encourage greater physical activity and healthier lifestyles among children in 30 primary schools, via the design, use and development of their grounds. The programme was sponsored by Kraft Europe, and developed by LTL with input from the British Heart Foundation and British Nutrition Foundation.

health4schools focused on school grounds in Gloucestershire, and offered four interlinked health themes – growing food, cooking, breakfast clubs and active play. By making the most of a blend of training, financial assistance and facilitated support, the schools were all able to significantly improve the health awareness of their pupils.

LTL continues to develop programmes and partnerships that focus on the health agenda, and one such example is the Local Food programme. LTL are a key partner in a consortium bid to the BIG Lottery Fund to run an award scheme to which schools will be able to apply for funding to develop growing areas within their grounds.

By continuing to develop and deliver these programmes, LTL is able to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to promoting the health agenda through school grounds.
