The Programmes team manages a range of initiatives, both national and regional, which work with key groups in the communities of schools and early years settings.

All of these initiatives seek to promote and enhance the development, use and value of outdoor spaces in diverse and innovative ways.

Spaces to Grow

LTL, in partnership with Kent EYDCP supported early years settings across the county.

Putting it into Practice

  John Laing London School Grounds Awards

With funding from the Laing Charitable Trust, more than 50 prizes of funding and support are available to make changes to your outdoor spaces.
Dream Playgrounds
Primary
The Royal Bank of Scotland Group Dream Playgrounds competition set out to transform Britain's neediest playgrounds. Over 1,000 schools entered, with 10 receiving £10,000 and one national winner receiving £100,000.
Get Moving

The use of the school grounds served as a focus point to encourage greater physical activity and healthier lifestyles among primary school children.
 
School Estate Management Plan
Primary
Clackmannanshire Council worked with every school in the local authority to develop a coherent and effective Authority-wide plan to improve all school grounds.
First Steps to your Heritage

GfL, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, worked with six primary schools in Perth and Kinross to investigate and engage with their heritage.
  Fruit-full Schools

A National Lottery Local Food Grant will enable thousands of children to establish heritage orchards in their grounds.
Greener Grounds

ExxonMobil Link Schools have transformed their grounds into exciting places for playing and learning.

Art of the Garden

Supergrounds

A £6 million community investment programme by RBS group helps schools improve their grounds.
  School Grounds of the Future

Demonstrated how school grounds can be transformed and managed for the benefit of children's learning and development
  Learning Together

With funding from DEFRA's Environmental Action Fund and a partnership with NCPTA, over 2,000 PTAs made the most of their grounds.
GIS Pilot

LTL worked with ESRI (UK) and secondary schools to use GIS to map school grounds.



Sense of Time and Place

A national pilot project aimed at engaging young people (11-18yrs) and secondary schools in their heritage.

Hearts and Minds

Following the success of Sense of Time and Place, LTL worked with secondary school communities to engage with local heritage.
