Childrens Environmental Learning The Use, Design and Management of School Grounds - Malone, Karen and Tranter, Paul (2003)
Children, Youth and Environments 13(2)
This article examines school grounds as sites for play and environmental learning. Based on a three-year project that involved 50 eight- to ten-year-old children at five Australian primary schools. Data collection includes behaviour mapping of children's play, interviews with children and teachers, and analysis of children's drawings of school grounds. Measuring Success A Guide to Evaluating School Grounds Projects - Learning through Landscapes, 2004
Evaluation is an essesntial part of any school grounds project. As well as helping you judge the effects of all your hard work, evaluation gives you the impetus to celebrate and publicise what you have achieved, and can strengthen your case for funding future projects.
Measuring Success is a useful resource for anyone involved in a school grounds development project. The pack includes an introduction to evaluation concepts; a range of activities to get children and adults fully involved in evaluation; questionnaires for staff and pupils; and feedback forms to share your findings with LTL.
All the activities included in the Measuring Success pack have been designed with pupil participation in mind, making the evaluation process both fun and educational.
With funding from the DfES Innovation Unit, the Measuring Success resource pack is now available to members for just £5 inc P&P and to non-members for only £9.95 until the end of December 2005.
