Schools Professionals Partners
The RBS Supergrounds Awards have enabled the Royal Bank of Scotland Group to harness the unique position of schools at the heart of local communities to achieve a range of Community Investment objectives.

The bank's partnership with LTL has been extended and renewed twice throughout the programme's seven year history, during which time over 900 schools have benefited from an investment of over £8 million. Projects have been supported by a wide range of people including Gordon Brown, Andy Murray, Ed Balls and many local MPs to celebrate the transformation of school grounds into attractive and stimulating places where children can learn and play in safety.

How did it work?
Schools accepted onto the programme received:
 - a cash award of £4,000
 - 4 days with a Project Advisor to help with planning and implementation
 - membership to the Supergrounds Learning Network for detailed advice and support through a dedicated
   telephone and email helpline
 - 9 months to plan, develop and implement their projects - starting in October

Who was it for?
All schools were nominated by an RBS group employee who was actively involved with them - as a PTA member, governor, volunteer, fundraiser or supporter.

Supergrounds has proven popular with employees who gave nearly 23,000 hours of their time to support the projects. This participation has helped to develop skills as well as pride: 86% said that their involvement has had a positive impact on their professional performance.

What next?
The Supergrounds Award scheme is now closed to new schools but you can read the evaluation of the programme and take a look at tips for improving your grounds at www.supergrounds.com

The programme has gained much media coverage as it has improved the learning, wellbeing and enjoyment for over 223,000 children across the UK. Teachers reported that 90% of their pupils were having more fun, were happier and that having a Supergrounds project has increased the time pupils spent learning and playing outside by one hour per week per child. What's more over 90% said that they had introduced new ways of teaching and learning so the programme will have a wider reaching legacy.

“Supergrounds have been a pleasure to work with, we have been supported and encouraged by your boundless ideas, energy and enthusiasm, your quick way of sizing up problems and adapting ideas accordingly. The whole project would not have had such fun or as inspiring without you and we are lucky to have had this help. Thank you Supergrounds!”
