In partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government, we have created a guide to help early years settings and schools in Wales improve their outdoor spaces for learning and play. First steps outdoors is aimed at all those involved with improving the use, design and management of outdoor learning environments.
First steps outdoors draws upon Learning through Landscapes' 20 years of research and experience and supports early years settings and schools in developing their ethos and attitude towards the outdoors, helping to deliver a high quality curriculum and to ensure the best possible outcomes for children.
Planning and making the first steps to improve your outdoor spaces can feel overwhelming, especially on top of everything else you're expected to do. First steps outdoors has been designed to provide practical, fun and manageable solutions to plan, use, and maintain improvements to any setting’s grounds, making it a better place for stimulating and enjoyable play and learning. The guide also provides inspiration from others, and can help you save time and money, with templates, resources and tips for avoiding costly mistakes. There is also advice on engaging children in the development process.
Settings, primary schools and early years advisors throughout Wales have already been sent a free copy of First steps outdoors. To access a downloadable version along with additional resources please submit your details below.
