A Fresh Start for Young Learners
Joanne Dempster, STEM Tutor, the Princes Foundation, Scotland
Fresh Starts is a multi-day, cross curricular programme delivered by Dumfries House, aiming to provide an exciting outdoor learning experience for young people who are typically disengaged from education. Working with local schools and campus cops, young people visited the estate on four occasions to delve into outdoor learning on topics as diverse as farming, outdoor exercise and STEM.
Hear from our Fresh Starts cohort about what they have learned about the outdoors and themselves through a mix of outdoor education, breathing space exercises and the chance to try something new. A mix of presentations, discussion and activity led by the young people supported by Dumfries House Staff.
