About Alex

When did you start working for LtL and what does your job involve?

I started at LtL in April 2018.

I work on the Local Schools Nature Grant project so have the pleasure of going into lots of different schools and working with wonderful teachers all around the south of the country. I deliver training in all elements of outdoor learning from fire lighting to planting veg and describing leaves!

The 3 experiences that have best equipped you for this role?

I worked for an outdoor company for ten years, delivering all sorts of activities in various hotels and campsites. These experiences definitely started me on an outdoor learning journey and made me realise how much I enjoyed being in the fresh air and natural environments.

I was a primary teacher for 4 years so I know exactly what it is like for teachers and the pressure that they are under. I try to use this knowledge of the national curriculum and school life in my training delivery so that outdoor lessons can be effective and manageable for educators.

All my life, I have had a passion for travel and love exploring new places, cultures and our incredible world. I travel a lot around the UK for my role, so it comes in handy that I am happy living out of a suitcase and don’t mind my own company!

Alex’s LtL Experience

What has been your best day at LtL and why?

Every day, I have amazing moments where schools say that we have enabled and inspired them to get their children out of the classroom. I love what a difference we can make at LtL and seeing how far and wide across the country we can have an impact and encourage outdoor fun.

Why a paddleboard?

I am lucky enough to live on the very beautiful Isle of Wight so spend a vast proportion of my time on or in the water! We have a garage full of water sports toys, a tiny, rickety (but fully functional ) old speedboat and get out to explore our stunning coastline as much and as often as possible.
