About Carys

When did you start working for LtL and what does your job involve?

I started at Learning through Landscapes in November 2020.

My role involves all things digital – from our website to social media! I have a specific focus on improving our website and the way we use data from analytics to inform our communications and marketing decisions. This involves understanding how we can best communicate digitally in order to broaden the reach of our work. I also have the great job of raising awareness and flying the flag for our incredible training offer, the more educators trained – the more children spending time outdoors!

The 3 experiences that have best equipped you for this role?

My degree in psychology has been invaluable during my career in marketing and communications. I really love understanding what motivates people. This enables me to deliver communications and marketing which has maximum impact and really speaks to our audience.

I have previously worked with The Wildlife Trust on both a local and national level. During my time at The Wildlife Trust I gained experience doing loads of weird and wonderful things! From doing media interviews from the middle of a pond, building giant birds nests for the RHS Garden Show to delivering educational talks and activities to children. It is the latter which has the most relevance to this role as it really gave me an insight into the importance of outdoor learning.

I am extremely lucky to live in a beautiful rural valley on the foot of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. I grew up playing in rivers, climbing trees and investigating all the creatures I could find in my garden – from frogs to ants! It is this that ignited my interest for nature, which led me to where I am today.

Carys’ LtL Experience

Why walking boots?

Living on the foot of the Brecon Beacons National Park means that I am totally spoiled for choice when it comes to walking! I love spending my spare time exploring my local mountain – come rain or shine! No matter how many times I visit somewhere, there is always something new to discover and explore.
