About Hafsah

When did you start working for LtL and what does your job involve?

I began working for LtL in March 2021.

I am a project officer for the Polli:Nation for the Next generation (Polli:Gen) project. I work with a group of 4 other project officers who together on a weekly basis visit a total of 24 schools across Leicester and deliver brilliant curriculum based project all about pollinators. We cover what pollinators are, why they are important, followed by us supporting the pupils in making more pollinator friendly school grounds. Alongside this and with pupils support we will be very excitingly taking this project to local community groups and creating a vast pollinator corridor across Leicester.

The 3 experiences that have best equipped you for this role?

My degree in horticulture has given me a strong understanding of all things plants and habitats which I am able to use to support pupils and teachers in developing their school grounds. I love being able to share this knowledge with the children and seeing them look at the natural world around them in a completely different way.

I volunteered as a Green Plan It mentor for the RHS and worked with a secondary school teaching them about the why and how of designing a wildlife friendly garden on their school grounds. I loved this experience and it what inspired me to look for jobs in the outdoor education sector.

In the past few years I have worked on various community horticulture projects. I ran workshops with Syrian refugee children at a local community centre as well as supported the development of multiple community gardens across Leicester. I am able to use this experience to help support the community element of the Polli:Gen project.

Hafsah’s LtL Experience

Mini Secateurs

Why mini-secateurs?

I chose my mini secateurs because they are my must have tool when I go for walks. I love foraging plants to make food, remedies and more. These little handy pair fit nicely into my bag and I can carry them wherever and whenever. Although they do need a good clean!
