About Hannah

When did you start working for LtL and what does your job involve?

I joined LtL in June 2021.

My job is to work with the LtL team to secure funding for new and existing projects, programmes and campaigns. On a day to day basis, I spend my time learning as much as I can about our projects (from the ins and outs of the budget and monitoring and evaluation strategy, to the nitty gritty details of session delivery), researching and building relationships with our current and potential funders, and writing applications for grants.

The 3 experiences that have best equipped you for this role?

I’ve had the privilege of working with many inspirational organisations as a fundraiser, securing grants to address youth homelessness, young people’s mental health, isolation in older people, addiction, leaking church roofs, and more! Some of the projects that have left the biggest impression on me are those that connected people with the natural world, and the profound impact this has had on people’s mental and emotional wellbeing.

I grew up in an outdoorsy family, spending lots of my childhood weekends in bird hides or on the allotment (not always without protest!) Since having my own children, our connection to the natural world has once again become one of the most important rhythms in my life – watching the seasons change in our garden, learning the names of the trees we pass on our daily walks, and endless pocketfuls of leaves, catkins, stones, and sea glass.

When I was a child I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. While this hasn’t happened in the way I imagined, I think that a big part of my job is being a storyteller, capturing the heart of a charity on paper and drawing the reader into its vision.

Hannah’s LtL Experience

Bunch of flowers

Why a bunch of flowers

For many years I believed I couldn’t keep plants alive, but during the COVID lockdowns I created a cutting patch in our garden – this is the first bunch of flowers that I grew from seed! To me this picture represents how my time outdoors inspires, teaches, and grounds me.
