Description

The Managing Risk in Play Provision: Implementation guide shows how those responsible for play provision can develop an approach to risk management that takes into account the benefits the provision offers to children and young people as well as the risks. It aims to help providers achieve two objectives that are fundamental in any play provision: to offer children and young people challenging, exciting, engaging play opportunities, while ensuring that they are not exposed to unacceptable risk of harm

Fundamental to the approach is an agreed play policy that describes the organisations position on offering opportunities for risk and challenge in the provision for which it is responsible. This forms the framework for a descriptive risk-benefit assessment which is supported by a technical inspection. These procedures work together to allow the provider to make well-informed judgements about the play opportunities, equipment and features they offer in play provision and other places where children play
