Nurturing Outdoor Play

Scotland

We are delighted to have been awarded funding by Inspiring Scotland for a new project that aims to improve the wellbeing of pre-school children through providing outdoor free play.

Working with 4 partner settings in Central Scotland we will run weekly outdoor play sessions for small groups of  children and their parents, using the settings' outdoor area as well as local parks, woodland and other areas of community greenspace. We'll also be working with parent groups in the partner settings to make improvements to local outdoor play spaces for younger children. Commenting on the announcement, GfL's Programme Manager, Alastair Seaman, said: "We know the huge impact that outdoor free play has on child development. But we also know that in Scotland, many children grow up without the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from playing outdoors. We're thrilled that this project will enable us to provide these healthy and therapeutic experiences to children who've had a difficult start to life".

Find out about some of the great experiences that children and parents have been having so far through this project in our interm project report here.
