Jasmine Walker
Project Officer – PolliGen

“I love seeing the excitement that the children have when we find a pollinator or minibeast, and when we get really stuck into a game involving predators and prey or pretending to be bats and moths.”

About Jasmine

When did you start working for LtL and what does your job involve?

I started with LtL in March 2021.

I am a Project Officer for the Polli:Nation for the Next Generation Project, based in Leicester. This involves going into schools and delivering sessions on the importance of pollinators and how to make schools grounds more pollinator friendly to classes of primary and secondary children. As well as this, I work on the project evaluation, and I work with suppliers to make sure everyone has the resources they need!

The 3 experiences that have best equipped you for this role?

I completed a placement year during my zoology degree at a field centre in Borneo, and this has given me experience working with a wide range of people, and has shown me the challenges that working outdoors can present!

Whilst working in a wildlife park in Devon I developed a passion for engaging children with nature and the outdoors.

Growing up in Devon has made me appreciate the importance of nature connection and access to green space.

Jasmine’s LtL Experience

What has been your best day at LtL and why?

My best day at LtL is difficult to choose! It is definitely one of my days delivering sessions in schools which is always great fun. I love seeing the excitement that the children have when we find a pollinator or minibeast, and when we get really stuck into a game involving predators and prey or pretending to be bats and moths. There are too many great days to choose from!

Head torch

Why a head torch?

This is the head torch I took to Borneo so it has seen me through many night walks, python surveys and early morning bearded pig sampling. More recently I’ve used it for bat surveys, and it always comes in handy when out surveying at night!
