About Steve

When did you start working for LtL and what does your job involve?

I started working for LtL in November 2003, moving up to work in the Scottish office in 2005.

I guess the best way to describe my role is ‘on the ground support’. Every day is different, from supporting nursery staff and children in the woods, running consultation workshops with pupils to facilitating workshops with a school senior management team. I get involved with training teaching staff regarding taking learning outdoors, I support schools with advisory visits where we focus on overcoming obstacles and making grounds improvements, I write curriculum resources and I run projects in schools. I love the variety of my role.

The 3 experiences that have best equipped you for this role?

I have always worked with people in one form or another, young and old and from all walks of life, and I like to talk!

I’ve spent a lot of time in schools and nurseries working with staff and children, so I understand the day to day reality and the obstacles they face.

I love being outdoors and would swap a cold, wet day outside to being at my desk every time!

Steve’s LtL Experience

What has been your best day at LtL and why?

This is a very hard question to answer! There isn’t any one day that stands out, but I do feel very lucky to do this job and work with the colleagues I have. We all share the same sense of commitment and passion for getting people of all ages outdoors and that, amongst other reasons, is why I work for LtL.

Why a kayak on a loch shore?

I moved to live and work in Scotland in 2005 and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. There are so many outdoor opportunities right on my doorstep, and don’t get me started about the Highlands and Islands! The loch where I took the image of my kayack is just 15minutes from my house – perfect!
